Tracy Lucht, assistant professor of journalism in the Greenlee School of Journalism and Communication at Iowa State University, recently published “Sylvia Porter: America’s Original Personal Finance Columnist.”
Lucht is the daughter of Sue Durlam Lucht of Jefferson.
Sylvia Porter (1913-1991) was the nation’s first personal finance columnist. In her book, Tracy Lucht traces Porter’s career as she creates a new form of journalism, business journalism, and establishes herself as a force in a male-dominated field. Porter’s advice was sought by countless newspaper readers and by US presidents. As the first biography of Porter, Lucht’s book contributes to the documentation of the history of women and the media.
“Sylvia Porter: America’s Original Personal Finance Columnist” is published by Syracuse University Press.
